ANNE PARRISH
Our house was built in 1985. We have a relatively large (10x14) master bathroom. We never liked the layout which had a standalone shower and a large soaking tub (which I never used since we moved in to the house in 2001) on opposite sides of the room. The countertop also had an odd multi level thing going on, due to the height of the window that was between the two sinks. Four years ago, the shower developed a leak and we decided that we would do a remodel rather than just replace the shower. We got estimates, talked to contractors but just couldn't find anyone whose ideas and price we thought we could trust so we avoided the whole thing and just used the shower in hall bathroom for *four whole years*. Finally, in November of 2013, we met Recep Bayraktar, the proprietor of Happy Homes Remodeling, at a small home show. We liked what he had to say, liked the photos he showed us of previous jobs, etc., so we decided to get an estimate and check his references. The estimate was within our budget - lower than estimates that we had previously gotten from bigger, better known companies - and we felt completely comfortable that Happy Homes Remodeling would be able to do the work well. Because the estimate was lower than other ones, we were free to upgrade materials as we chose. We added in a heated floor, additional lighting, and were not constrained by budget concerns in what tiles and granite we chose.
Happy Homes Remodeling was excellent to work with at every step of the way. Recep listened carefully when we had ideas about what we wanted but was able to guide us when we were floundering. Probably what made us difficult customers was my indecision about what color/material combinations would be good to choose. Recep was remarkably patient about helping us with design decisions and made excellent suggestions that we would never have thought of. He was very detail oriented and was careful about thinking through the implications of changes to decisions we had made. For instance, we changed the cabinet from the original design because it came in a better color. However, it had a different style door that went all the way to the edge of the cabinet so the layout had to be adjusted so that the cabinet by the bathroom door could open all the way and not bump into the door frame. He was careful to check with us whenever a decision needed to be made - he was happy to offer his opinion but never presumed anything so we never had any unhappy surprises.
The job went very smoothly and was completed on time and on budget. The workmen were very careful not to track mud or dust around (even though our carpet is quite old and we are not all that careful ourselves) and they were very reliable about showing up when they said they would. We ended up with a large walk in shower where the soaking tub was and a wonderful linen closet where the standalone shower had been. We are thrilled with the results and are already planning to hire Happy Homes Remodeling for additional work.
